Drive Carefully

When travelling through the Canadian Rockies in the winter, these sign give you a heads up on what to expect.  While the pictures are incredibly beautiful when there has been a new snow fall, the road can be difficult to maneuver.  So if you happen to be heading from Banff to Jasper and the road condition sign indicates poor driving conditions, slow down and drive carefully  and take lots of pictures!

Canadian contribution to the culinary world...

I don't know of any other donut shop which has influenced a country's psychy like Tim Hortons (timmy's). It has changed the language by spawning the term "double double" to go along with "eh".  It is also the main source of warmth for many hockey parents while at the same time rolling up their rims to see what they have won.

So next time you bump into a Canadian and want to start up a conversation, ask them about timmy's.

Winter Birdfeeder

It is very uncomfortable to be outside when it is minus forty.  As uncomfortable as it can be to be outside for short periods of time, the animials live in these conditions ever winter.   During winter, we keep this birdfeeder full so that birds have a chance.

Butt Out!

Alberta is slowly becoming a non-smoking province.
This movement has generated this new piece of furniture. They are found in front of most public building and provide a place to discard your butts. But as you can see from the ground, not eveyone hits the mark.

Walking along Jasper Avenue and you come across these modern shelters/bus stands. Each of these stands, has spot for advertisements including posters advertised operas, plays, musicals and underground shows.

Subway Lighting

The provincial capital is known for its culture as well as it shopping, but very few people comment on its subway. This is a light at one of its underground stations.

Mount Edith Cavell

This is one of my favorite times of year.

There is always something fresh about snow everywhere.

Pyramind Mountain

There is a road on the otherside of Pyramid Mountain which almost reaches the top. The road is not open to the public but was used until recently by the a telecommunication company which used to have a communication tower on its peak.

On this day, it was minus 17 and yet the fast moving water kept the river from freezing over. Even if it had frooze over, the ice would have never held the weight of a person. So stay off the river!

Snowy Mountain Road

Mountain Pass Road
I wasn't the only one who found this view spectacular, the gentleman in this photo spent twenty minutes taking pictures.
From this spot, there were eleven different major mountain peaks.

Sky Line Part II

The Edmonton Downtown Sky line. Edmonton has just over 750,000 people living in its metropolitan centre.
The picture shows the Hotel MacDonald lit up as well the glass pyramids.

Where am I?

Mount Athabasca

Mount Athabasca
About twenty kilometers from Jasper, you pass by this mountain along the road. For most, this is a just a quick glimpse in the side window. But definitely a view worth a second look.

Highway 93: A Journey to the Sky

Journey to Sky
This is one of those times where a picture says it all. This was one of a few pictures taken on the trip from Banff to Jasper National Park.
On this overcast day, a few of the mountains were cloud covered; however, this one decided to stay out and show itself off.

Timing Is Everything...

Driving down Jasper Avenue in Edmonton and I came across this advertisement.
I can understand the need to maintain awareness within your target market, but I
have a feeling that on this day not many people were thinking about golf.

But then again, it put a smile on my face and that maybe a few others...

Open of Business

 Open for Business

What better time to start this site then the day after what was deemed as the Storm of the Century.  Well as you can see, this snowfall didn't stop shops from openning up although the traffic wasnt nearly as brisk as a normal winter day.
